All You Need Is Kill manga series follows Keiji Kiriya, a fresh recruit in the United Defense Force, as he battles against alien creatures known as “Mimics” threatening Earth. Despite the advanced gear the soldiers have, the Mimics are winning. Keiji finds himself stuck in a time loop, repeating the same day each time he dies. With each loop, he becomes a better fighter, hoping to change his fate. After many loops, Keiji discovers he shares this time loop fate with Rita Vrataski, a famous warrior who prefers a battle axe. They team up to break free from the loop by destroying the Mimics’ central control points. The Mimics keep evolving to counter Keiji’s tactics. Rita explains that they’re becoming like the Mimics themselves due to the time loop. In a heartbreaking twist, Keiji realizes one of them must die to end the loop. Rita sacrifices herself, urging Keiji to end the war and prevent more suffering. He fulfills her wish, becoming a hero. As a tribute to Rita, he paints his gear blue, honoring her memory and the sacrifice she made.
